Argos Skipper

 

 

This small, rather drably colored skipper should not be overlooked. Numbers appear to be declining throughout much of its range in the eastern United States but Florida remains one of its strongholds.  Its existence may represent unique Florida habitat.  (Photo by Will Cook)

 

 

Arogos Skipper Atrytone arogos (Boisduval and LeConte) (Family: Hesperiidae)

Habitat: Pine flatwoods, dry prairies, sandhills

Florida Range: Northern and central Florida

Larval Hostplants: Lopsided Indiangrass (Sorghastrum secundum); Andropogon species

Flight: Up to three generations per year in Florida

Occurrence: Rare or local
